[Part Two]: My Thoughts On NYC

Although I’m kinda tired, I’m also kinda not and figured I should do it now before I just fall asleep. It won’t be as depth as the other one though!

1) NYC [Song]: So this is the typical debut group genki happy song. Everyone has one so why not these guys? Now I love Ultra Music Power since that was just awesomeness but this…yeah, not so awesome. I mean the dance break part sounds pretty cool but otherwise, it’s not so interesting. If I had to describe the song in one word, it would be “repetitive.” Yeesh..I get it already…but I think what really bothers me is that the B.I. Shadow boys are totally in the background, only singing these little phrases and the chorus with the NYC Boys. Yamada and Chinen are awesome but they have their own group they belong in. If B.I. Shadow has to play background for anybody, it should only have to be one person…not three.

2) NYC PV: Honestly, I can pretty much sum up the video in a few words. It’s Yamada, Chinen and Yuma’s new PV!!…oh, and those other four boys are there too. They’re slightly above all the dancing Johnny’s Juniors in the background. NYC Boys really means Yuma, Yamada and Chinen but they didn’t want to make the other ones feel bad…and the video didn’t have nearly enough of them. Come on now…

3) NYC Jacket Shooting: I know this is gonna sound mean but I couldn’t even finish watching the making of. The entire thing was so much about Yamada, Chinen and Yuma that I got bored waiting for the other boys to come on…I remember there was one scene where Kento, Hokuto and Yuugo hanging out together which was fun. I spent FOREVER waiting for Fuma to come on…and Chinen’s little dance thing was funny. As was the part when Yuma and Chinen found Yamada sleeping and kinda bothered him. It felt so much like the Mayonaka no Shadow Boy PV Making, it made me want another PV making from Hey! Say! JUMP…like that will ever happen. Just…more B.I. Shadow please. I got into this group, wanting more Fuma and Kento not more Yuma and boys who have already debuted…

4) NYC Jacket Shooting: Wait a minute? This is the NYC Boys Jacket shooting? Well that’s weird because the only people I saw taking pictures were Yamada, Chinen and Yuma…this is starting to piss me off. What was the one part of the video I liked? When Fuma made the “Y” with his finger and Yuugo tried, not being able to do it. That was really cute but otherwise, it was too much talking from Yamada and Chinen. They are indeed awesome and it’s not their fault but it just bothers me that B.I. Shadow are being pushed so much to the background.

So what have we learned today?

+ Yamada and Chinen are priority one and get spotlight. Period.
+ Yuma is our little rising star and thus he gets to be on the same level as Yamada and Chinen.
+ There are 4 other boys who keep popping up on the set. Who are they again?

Yeesh…

  1. I totally agree!! I don’t mind so much that we get to see more of Chinen than we do in HSJ PV makings, hehe, but I wouldn’t have minded if they shoved in a bit more B.I. Shadow. It was kinda boring just seeing “those” three, but the song’s still catchy!

    • Yeah, more Chinen was nice but it needed A LOT more B.I. Shadow

  2. i know…
the song is kinda “repettiive”, as you put it…

but i have to kinda admit,
    yuma is quite good… for a rookie i mean…

and yes, the making of is kinda full of the NYC leaving the other 4 in the shadows… but i think, it’s kinda funny…

But yeah, he’s pretty good 🙂

    • LOL, that Yamada!
      Such a trickster!!!
But yeah, I’m glad they’re happy although at points, it felt like they were separated between NYC Boys and B.I. Shadow 😦

    • hahaha, that’s true!
They’re always getting second-string in the name department 😦

      • hopefully they’ll sing more on future releases or maybe even have some double a sides and c/w tracks to themselves.

  5. That would be good…although I’d just rather have everyone sing together…although I must admit the idea of having Fuma, Kento, Hokuto and Yuugo having a song to themselves without Yuma would make me kind of excited 😄

  6. Mostly I agree with you, although the whole NYC project is announced as a temporary group like KittyGYM which also borrowed members from other units to support volleyball. But the big difference is that it happens at the exact same moment as Yuma w/B.I.Shadow’s debut, which has taken the spotlight off of BIS and turned it on NYC. I wonder if Johnny decided to debut NYwBIS, then realized that hardly anybody knows these guys, and it would be really hard to create the excitement level they wanted for the national volleyball audience. Which is why we’re seeing a lot of Yamada and Chinen right now. It seems very confusing and a little disorganized right now, but I’m betting on NYwBIS in the long run. The Yugo story is a lot of fun – watch this kid win an audition vote and work his way to the top – just like the big Idol TV voting shows around the world. And how can you not love Nakaken with his personality and huge smile? As for Yuma, he’s a good actor and hard-working leader – not my favorite but I wouldn’t bet against Johnny’s intuition either. Check back in 6 months. Next time HSJ goes on tour, I think NYwBIS will be right there with them, holding their own.

    • I can definitely agree with you here. Although Fuma and Kento had roles in Scrap Teacher and Yuugo went through the School Kakumei process, they’re relatively unknown. I (and many others) are guessing that Johnny brought Yamada and Chinen brought them in as loveable and old faces to raise interest and sales. The only problem I have with that is that even though adding Yamada and Chinen to the mix might raise interest, I don’t think it won’t help this group with their next single. Not the way he did it anyway…once Yamada and Chinen go bye bye, people who heard NYC might still be interested in Yuma but it’s not like the other boys got to sing anything but backing lines. If this was my first hearing of them, I would still be unsure if I would like them without Yamada and Chinen…

With time, I’m sure the attention will spread to the other members but they have so much personality and are good singers, which makes me think it’s stupid to push them to the background. Not only that but it’s not fair to them…

  7. Actually, I like their song! (: It’s really fun to listen to, although way too typical for a Johnny song. It’s cheerful and I love the “Sky! High!” parts because they always jump when they sing it. Hehe. But I hate the fact that they should just have “NYC” instead of “NYC boys” – seriously, it’s like who are the kids in the yellow behind Yamada, Chinen, and Yuma? Oh, just the backdancers. ):

NYC jacket shooting was just mean. Actually, I sort of think the whole NYC Boys group and everything was mean. Why is that every time there’s a new group, Johnny always chooses to focus on maybe a few boys and then leave the rest in the background…? There are a lot of fans of B.I Shadow, so really…):

    • I know!! It pisses me off that the other boys are getting treated like backup. It was like the Yamada, Chinen and Yuma show…also starring those other guys…

Maybe I would like the song more if I could hear some of the other boys’ voices. Their parts are cute though. I don’t like the dancing when they’re all together right before the jump…don’t know why it bothers me…

If they’re gonna have NYC Boys hog the whole song then they should have just given a song (Aoi Kisetsu) to just B.I. Shadow…

  8. yah!!! im back? *you’re scared of my long comments huh?*

i felt it’s not fair from the beginning. i thought NYC was supposed to be NAKAJIMA Yamada Chinen. but hell, what happened? im damned disappointed with this group since the beginning…haha, i personally dont like yuma & yuugo. hmm…?

i seriously like yuma’s voice here…i wonder why, heheh,, but i dont like his movements in the PV. what was wrong with his hands? he looks real weird…i mean REALLY weird. yuugo looks like he’s in another dimension somewhere. i cant seem to see him confident in what he’s doing & he’s quite blur actually…

hey,, johny-san, where’s my boys? the nyc “BOYS”…how come they’re almost the same as those jr.s behind them?? WTH is in the mind of johnny-san? i mean, nyc boys…werent they in the same line & same in everything? oh, i forgot, it’s NYC boys…hahaha *im a dork* anyway, they just have to give us otaku(s) more bi shadow….especially kento, fuma & hokuto *+yuugo*….!!!!
    ***my unsatisfactory***

about the jacket shooting, did you read any comment about yama-chan looks like a gay bartender?? i noticed that yuugo laughed quietly when yuma was about to drink that funny thing…as if he know what it’s gonna taste…hokuto kawaii ne, during fuma’s shoot…

i followed chinen’s short dance,, haha, he’s too cute. i just followed him dancing that w/out thinking twice…yama-chan slept with his back upwards because he doesnt want to mess up his hair ne? i feel proud when he says “oyasumi” because i understand that…wahaha~

    • hahaha yay you’re back!! And more long comments! Yesss!

For the NYC Boys, do you mean you thought it was just gonna be those three or that Yuma was gonna have the most spotlight? Either way, it’s way unfair to the other four…which happen to be my favs…
And you don’t like Yuugo?! Awww 😦

LOL, I feel like it’s very easy for Yuma to look strange…but maybe that’s just me 😄
And Yuugo may not have the most confidence yet but I feel like it’s slowly growing. I mean he was pretty much thrown into things right after School Kakumei…it’s definitely a rush so we gotta give him time 🙂

I completely agree!!! Honestly, those four are the reasons that I love this group and it sucks that they all go pushed to the back for Yuma, Yamada and Chinen. And it’s soooo unfair that they’re like Junior backup dancers for these guys…yeesh.

hahaha, I’ve never read that one before!
And that seems cute on Yuugo. Kawaii!!

      LMAO, that was hilarious!!
And yeah, that may be the reason that Yama-chan slept like that…I wonder…
hahaha I’m proud of you too!! 😀
